ModusPractica Pro — Music Practice Planner
ModusPractica Pro is a free, browser-based practice planner for musicians. It applies principles from spaced repetition and motor learning research to suggest when to revisit each section — spending less time on what you already retain, and more on what still needs consolidation.
How it works
The app is built on FSRS-inspired spaced repetition and principles from cognitive psychology and motor learning research. After each practice session, the algorithm estimates the best moment for your next repetition — not too soon, not too late. Tempo tracking stores achieved versus target BPM and syncs the built-in metronome; you advance speed yourself.
Features
- Spaced repetition scheduling based on FSRS-inspired intervals
- Tempo tracking and integrated metronome: achieved vs target BPM, with tempo advances under your manual control
- FrustrationGuard: stops sessions when repeated failures suggest practice is no longer productive
- Memory zones (Exploration, Consolidation, Mastery) — coaching labels, not measured brain stages
- Entry cost: tracks errors before the first correct repetition as a progress indicator
- AI-powered progress reports (optional, via Groq API)
- All data stored locally — no account required, no server
- Free to use for personal practice
Scientific basis
ModusPractica Pro draws on peer-reviewed research on practice and sleep (Walker et al., 2002; Korman et al., 2007; see The Science for the ongoing debate), spaced repetition (Ye et al., 2022 — FSRS-inspired, not a full FSRS implementation), and strategic tempo variation and error correction in practice (Duke et al., 2009). Calibration values are design choices; see The Science for what is evidence, extrapolation, or heuristic.
